About the Role

The Junior Backend Developer is responsible for supporting the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of backend applications and system integrations. This position works closely with frontend developers, quality assurance, DevOps, infrastructure, product, and business teams to ensure that backend services are reliable, secure, scalable, and aligned with business requirements.

This role is suitable for fresh graduates or early-career professionals with up to two years of experience who have a solid foundation in backend development, database design, REST APIs, asynchronous processing, and modern software development practices.

What You Will Do

Backend Application Development

• Develop, enhance, test, and maintain backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Build backend applications using NestJS, Express.js, or similar frameworks.
• Implement business logic based on approved functional and technical requirements.
• Write clean, structured, reusable, and maintainable code in accordance with coding standards.
• Support the development of modular and scalable backend architecture.
• Participate in code reviews and apply feedback from senior developers or technical leads.

API Development and Integration

• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs for web, mobile, and internal applications.
• Define API endpoints, request and response structures, validation rules, status codes, and error-handling standards.
• Integrate backend services with internal systems, third-party services, and external APIs.
• Prepare and maintain API documentation using Swagger, OpenAPI, Postman, or similar tools.
• Support API testing, performance checking, and troubleshooting of integration issues.

Database Design and Management

• Design and maintain relational databases using MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Translate application requirements into appropriate tables, columns, keys, constraints, indexes, and relationships.
• Write and optimize SQL queries for data retrieval, insertion, update, and deletion.
• Understand and apply one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many database relationships.
• Use ORM tools such as Prisma or Sequelize for database access and schema management.
• Create and manage database migrations, seed data, and model relationships.
• Support troubleshooting related to query errors, data inconsistency, transaction issues, and database performance.

Business and Technical Analysis

• Analyze business requirements and translate them into backend technical requirements.
• Support the preparation of system flows, process diagrams, data flows, API specifications, and backend designs.
• Identify required entities, database structures, validation rules, integrations, and business logic.
• Clarify unclear requirements with product, business, and technical stakeholders before development begins.
• Assess the technical impact of requirement changes on APIs, databases, integrations, and existing services.

Asynchronous Processing and Messaging

• Implement asynchronous processes using message brokers such as RabbitMQ.
• Understand the basic concepts of producer, consumer, queue, exchange, routing key, acknowledgement, and retry handling.
• Support the development of background jobs, event-driven processes, and decoupled service communication.
• Monitor and troubleshoot failed messages, duplicate processing, queue backlogs, and consumer errors.

Testing, Debugging, and Troubleshooting

• Perform debugging and troubleshooting of backend applications, APIs, databases, and integrations.
• Analyze error messages, stack traces, application logs, API responses, and database results.
• Identify root causes and implement appropriate corrective actions.
• Create or support unit tests, integration tests, and API tests where required.
• Support user acceptance testing, defect fixing, production issue resolution, and post-release verification.
• Escalate complex issues with sufficient technical information and supporting evidence.

Version Control, Deployment, and Containerization

• Use Git for source-code management, including branch, commit, pull, push, merge, and conflict resolution.
• Follow the company’s branching strategy, pull-request process, and code-review workflow.
• Use Docker to create consistent development and deployment environments.
• Prepare or update Dockerfiles and Docker Compose configurations under supervision.
• Work with the DevOps or infrastructure team during deployment, release, rollback, and production troubleshooting.
• Manage application configuration using environment variables and secure configuration practices.

Maintenance and Documentation

• Maintain existing backend applications and implement approved enhancements.
• Prepare and update technical documentation, API documentation, database documentation, and troubleshooting notes.
• Document important configuration changes, deployment dependencies, and known issues.
• Support routine maintenance, refactoring, dependency updates, and technical-debt reduction.

Team Collaboration

• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA, DevOps, infrastructure, product, and business teams.
• Participate in technical discussions, sprint planning, daily meetings, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Communicate development progress, risks, blockers, and technical issues clearly and promptly.
• Provide reasonable effort estimates and complete assigned tasks according to agreed priorities and timelines.

What We’re Looking For

Educational Background and Experience

• Minimum Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Informatics Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
• Candidates with zero to two years of professional experience as a Backend Developer, Software Engineer, or in a related role are preferred.
• Fresh graduates should have relevant experience through internships, academic projects, bootcamps, freelance work, competitions, or personal projects.

Core Technical Qualifications

• Proficient in Node.js and TypeScript.
• Familiar with NestJS, Express.js, or similar backend frameworks.
• Able to design and develop RESTful APIs.
• Familiar with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar relational databases.
• Understands database concepts, SQL, normalization, indexing, transactions, and database relationships.
• Understands ORM concepts and is able to use Prisma or Sequelize.
• Familiar with Git and collaborative source-code workflows.
• Understands Docker and basic containerization concepts.
• Understands RabbitMQ and the basic concepts of asynchronous processing and message brokers.
• Able to analyze business requirements and translate them into technical requirements and backend designs.
• Able to design database structures, API specifications, validation rules, and process flows based on application requirements.
• Able to debug and troubleshoot backend applications, APIs, databases, and integrations.
